What's black and white and red all over? West Hollywood's crisp Murano, a restaurant and lounge perfectly suited to its environs.

Could the curse be broken? Among the previous incarnations of 9010 Melrose are a sports bar called Game (yeah, that one didn't last), but Murano's style, menu and price point are all stylized without alienating Weho gays who want cocktails and a nice dinner before moving on, say, to The Abbey. To start, a baby arugula salad arrives with fresh pears, candied almonds, goat cheese and a Champagne vinaigrette; we also recommend the prosciutto di Parma-wrapped phyllo grissini with fig marmalade. (Salty and sweet. Yum.) Several pasta options include wild mushroom and spinach ravioli, jumbo prawn scampi with linguini, and hand-rolled cannelloni filled with duck confit, sauteed arugula, fromage blanc and caramelized onions; less carb-y entrees include pan-roasted chicken breast, pork tenderloin, and Atlantic salmon on quinoa with lemon preserve and shaved green asparagus salad. Would the lounge vibe work in Los Feliz or, for that matter, Beverly Hills? Definitely not the former, and probably not the latter. But Palm Springs, on the other hand... —Lonny Pugh
