The folks from Morel's at the Grove bring you burger joint Rowdy Red in the City National building downtown, serving good grub for great prices from morning till night.
Breakfast service slings up pancakes, eggs, omelets, and even a breakfast burger topped with fried egg, hashbrowns and cheddar cheese. But the real deal is the burger menu later in the day.
At lunch or dinner, start off with sides like the crunchy mini corndogs, the light sweet potato fries, or the super-deep-fried onion rings. If that's enough grease for you, try one of the entrée salads like the Chineses Chicken Salad with romaine, water chestnuts, mandarin orange, almonds, shredded chicken, scallions, cilantro, wontons, rice noodles and sesame seeds in an Asian dressing.
The burgers appeal to every taste, including a classic 1/3-pounder starting at $5.50, and the distinctive Black & Blue burger with blue cheese and bacon for $7.35. If you're feeling like a classic meal, try one of the combos at the bottom of the menu, which include a burger, fries, and a soda, one of the Rowdy Red's humongous milkshakes, a glass of beer, or the house wine (which is made up in Rutherford, and is more than decent, especially for $5 a glass).
For the green crowd out there, you don't have fret about patronizing Rowdy Red as it uses local farmstead producers, 80 percent of whom are from California and supplied by area distributors.
The one drawback to the restaurant is its early hours, but we have its corporate location to thank for that (we all know that area of downtown is positively dead after dark). Parking can also be a bit of a hassle in the huge structure, but it definitely makes for a great breakfast or lunch place if you're in the area on business, or if you're hoping to grab an early dinner before a game, a show, or just at the end of a long day at work.
