The Backhouse
The Backhouse

Ever wonder why Burbank has been the home of The Tonight Show for over 40 years? Two words: happy hour. OK that might not be entirely true but Burbank is still a great little town for cheap drinks and eats after a long day of work. Here is your guide to the best happy hours in Burbank.

The Backhouse: When Burbankers are in the mood for moderately priced yakitori (skewered meat cooked over an open flame), they head over to The Backhouse. And when Burbankers are in the mood for a great happy hour, they also head over to The Backhouse. It happens daily, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and includes several of their yakitori skewers for $1.50. Drink specials are also included on their happy hour menu, meaning you can get filled up on yakitori and beer for under $20.

Elephant Bar: Like the sound of two happy hours a day? Well you'll definitely want to check out the Elephant Bar in Downtown Burbank for its twice-daily food and drink specials. Their happy hour happens every Monday thru Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and once again from 9 p.m. to close, which happens every night. Both happy hours include $3 margaritas, $4 mojitos, and lots of appetizers, like hand breaded chicken tenders, sweet potato fries and three cheese macaroni, for $5.

Flappers: Aside from being a lively comedy club where hilarious comedians like Tom Arnold and Greg Proops often perform, Flappers in Burbank is also a great happy hour spot. It's there that you can get discounts on drinks in the bar area, while watching stand-up comics hone their act every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. An up-to-date calendar is available at www.flapperscomedy.com.

Sardo's Grill & Lounge: Sardo's may be the only bar in Burbank (if not L.A.) that hosts the very popular Porn Star Karaoke every Tuesday night. But their daily happy hour is what really keeps people coming back. It happens every day from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and includes $3 margaritas, $9 pitchers of Miller Lite, $3 appetizers, and two-for-one well drinks from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Joe's Great American Bar & Grill: You always run the risk of turning people off with a bold name like Joe's Great American Bar & Grill. So is a bar like Joe's good enough to be deemed great? Let's count up all the pluses. Not only does Joe's have darts, a pool table, live entertainment seven nights a week, and one of the liveliest dance floors in Burbank, but happy hour is every Monday thru Friday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and includes $1 off all domestic beer and select cocktails, as well as half off all appetizers. Hmmm, I would say that qualifies as pretty darn great.

Burbank Bar and Grille: It's one of the few places in Burbank where you can sing karaoke, watch sports, and dance to live 80s music. Sound like heaven? I still haven't told you about their happy hour yet. Get ready for it, because happy hour is every Monday thru Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and once again from 10 p.m. to close; Fridays from 4 p.m. to 7p.m.; and Sundays all day! Phew! I got winded just from writing all that. Drink specials include domestic beers for $4 and under, imported bottles for $5, and appetizers like hot wings, quesadillas, and potato skins for $6. OK, now you can call Burbank Bar and Grille heaven.

Corner Bar: The bar is dark and cozy, the bartender is friendly and knows how to make a stiff drink, and yes, it's even located on a corner. Sound like your kind of place? Then you'll love Corner Bar's happy hour, happening Monday thru Friday from 5 p.m. to 7p.m., and featuring a dollar off all drinks! That may sound like a pretty great deal, but when you factor in that normal beer prices at Corner Bar are $2, with well drinks costing about $4, well then, happy hour just got a lot… happier?

Buffalo Wild Wings: If you're in the mood for several different varieties of hot wings, Buffalo Wild Wings is definitely a fun, lively restaurant to go to. But every Monday thru Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday thru Thursday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., it also becomes a great place for cheap drinks and food. How cheap? How about well drinks for $3, margaritas for $3.50, and select appetizers for $3? So I guess the only question left to answer is, when are they going to start calling it happy hours?

Chadaka Thai: There are lots of great things to talk about when mentioning Chadaka Thai – like their amazing dinner menu and spacious outdoor patio (to name just a couple). So let's just skip right ahead to their even better happy hour, happening daily from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and once again from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. every Sunday thru Thursday at the bar. It features $3 beers, cocktails and glasses of wine for $5, and appetizers for $6 and under. What kind of appetizers? How about crispy Thai egg rolls, cream cheese wontons with crab meat inside, and a full plate of Bangkok steak! With apps that good, who needs dinner?

Tequilas Cantina & Grill: Their .99 cent Taco Tuesdays are what gets most people walking through the door. But everyday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and once again from 9 p.m. to Midnight, it's happy hour at Tequilas Cantina & Grill, which includes specials on beer, cocktails, and their margaritas. And if you just happen to pop in on a Monday, margaritas are $1.99 all day. So sure, a lot people may come for the .99 cent Taco Tuesdays, but $1.99 Margarita Mondays and twice daily happy hours are pretty good too.

The Office: How many times can you tell a friend, “See you at the office,” and trust they'll know you're referring to a sports bar in Burbank? If that person just happens to be your boss, however, you may have just bought yourself a few extra hours of overtime without even knowing it. Aside from its clever name, The Office is also a great after-work spot for happy hour. It happens daily, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and includes pints of domestic beer for $2.50, MGD 64s for $2, and $1 off all appetizers. They also host a late night happy hour on Sunday nights, beginning at 10 p.m. Who knows – you may even see your boss there (unless he's already got you working).

3516 W. Victory Blvd., 91505; 818-848-3516

Fantasia Billiards: You may not fancy yourself a pool player, but you're sure to love the twice-daily happy hour specials at Fantasia Billiards, happening every Monday thru Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and once again from 10 p.m. to Midnight every Monday thru Thursday. Specials include pitchers of beer for $12.50, well drinks for $4, and forty percent off all appetizers. And any tab over $20 gets a free order of hot wings. Hmm… you might want to take up pool after all.

Story Tavern: A bar's not a bar without lots of ice-cold beer on tap. That's a given. But cider? Who sells that any more? Well you can always travel back in time to Medieval Europe (of course, you'd probably need a DeLorean first). Or you can pop in to Downtown Burbank's newest gastropub – Story Tavern. Yep, the good folks at Story have four different types of delicious cider on tap, along with wine, craft beer, and several rare and exotic imports. And if you think that's good, just wait ‘til you hear about their happy hour. It happens daily from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. – that's right, eight hours! – and includes $2 of select beer, wine, and cider. Talk about a hap-hap-happy day!

Chevy’s Fresh Mex: People usually stop into Chevy’s in Burbank for the food, which features authentic Mexican fare that’s freshly prepared from scratch each day. But every day from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Chevy’s also hosts a pretty decent happy hour. Specials include draft beer for $2.99, as well as house margaritas, well drinks and wine for $3.99. It’s a pretty decent deal, especially if you’re looking to grab dinner with co-workers or meet up with some friends. Check out the website for more details on some of the other menu specials Chevy’s offers.
