To Love and Dine in L.A.

Love is not a promise in Los Angeles, what with all our hot actors and scruffy screenwriters trolling Starbucks and UCLA extension courses. Even more uncertain? Relying on a restaurant's staying power. You discover a restaurant, a fast affair flairs, nights are spent together, then one day you turn around and the restaurant is gone, twenty dollar hamburgers and gourmet mac and cheese, a mere memory. Sound familiar? So, while you have each other, follow Cupid’s lead with dancing, tapas, sangria, and even the option of staying the night. For one day, let our jaded city become a love nest for two, or three, or four, or however you roll. –Philip Harris

Tangier’s
Great for spotting upcoming talent and being the best thing to happen to Los Feliz since the view of the Observatory, Tangier’s has put together a special Valentine’s Day three course dinner with a complimentary champagne toast for two. PDA encouraged.

Sapphire Laguna
Celebrating its first Valentine’s Day, Sapphire Laguna is taking its taking lovers on a three course prix fixe menu journey of savory sensuality. It starts with an appetizer tasting that includes smoked duck and an apple-potato cake, continuing through either beef or fish, and finally, a rest in a chocolate dome. All that and one of the best views of the pacific in the state. Maybe the perfect backdrop for a proposal?

Minotaure Tapas Restaurant & Wine Bar
At Minotaure, love is always in the air with tapas for two, fine Spanish wines, and genuine flamenco musicians. With tapas, smaller versions of favorite meals, even the food is intimate. Ever wanted to escape to Mexico for a romantic getaway? This is like that but without kids selling gum, diseased water, and political unrest.

Sometimes, you need to get away from all the people. Let go of all the agents, kids, assistants, paparazzi and tuck into a private bungalow at The Bungalow Club on Melrose. Privacy on Melrose, who knew? The menu includes a great sushi variety, a delicious dessert menu and a happy hour from 4 to 7 daily. Chamberlain West Hollywood
This one’s got it all. The Valentine’s Day Escape package includes champagne upon arrival, a copy of the Kama Sutra, and yes, even edible honey dust. Throw in breakfast in bed and it would be perfect. Oh wait, breakfast in bed is part of the package. As is Chef Peter Gobin’s “senses” menu. But, with a hotel suite at your disposal, who’s got time to eat food?

Call this one A Valentine’s Day Carol. The clever chefs over at Noé have put together a past, present and future six-course menu called “Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow.” “Yesterday” is a nostalgic journey with familiar high-end staples. Think Sashimi. “Today” is an interpretation on what foodie trends are hot now. Lobster with risotto and truffle sauce. “Tomorrow” is Miyazaki Beef Chirashi with Soy Garlic Vinagrette. Jar
Think Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner, Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey. This chop house is straight out of Hollywood’s golden era. All year, the décor (mid-century modern with a dash of glam) and menu is designed for romance. But, for Valentine’s Day, they’ve put together a tasting menu of the house signature dishes as well as new seasonal creations, including Braised Heritage Pork Cheeks, Profiteroles with Blood Orange Marmalde, and Calamari salad.

KOI Valentine’s Day desserts
If you’re looking for something right in your own back yard, the desserts at KOI are a great way to shake up a local staple. Heart-shaped napoleons, a red valentine’s champagne, and a chocolate fondue plate with heart-shaped cookies. It’s all so nauseatingly sweet, it actually works. We can think of other things we’d like to in the chocolate.
