Because macarons are the new “IT” sweet

Anyone who has visited Paris (or any affected foodinista) knows that the macaron—those Disney-bright almond paste cookies reminiscent of miniburger sliders—and Ladurée go hand in hand.

So why mess with perfection? Well, according to the distance calculator, classic Ladurée is about 9,000 kilometres from Los Angeles. (And you bitched that Domino’s was strict with its delivery radius; delivery of these precious pastries limited to Paris only.)

With its storefront (same architect as Sprinkles) bathed in minimalist white and lush photography to match the equally vibrant-colored selection of goodies perched on a custom terraced shelf, owner Paulette Koumetz presides over this artisan affair with appropriate French chic. Koumetz, who developed her exclusive recipe with world champion Christophe Michalak, one-time winner of the pastry world series (seriously—it’s called the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie), promises they’re less than 100 calories per cookie. And all of her ingredients—and we mean all of them—are imported those many kilometers from France.

For holiday and occasional needs, order a dozen or two of her rotating seasonals, all protected in sleek lime-green or plum-colored sleeves. They’re artful and way prettier than crinkly cellophane.
