"We love the gentle giants of the sea," she smiled, "so when the International Fund for Animal Welfare asked, we had to say yes!" She, her husband, cinematographer-director Chris Duddy, and their five children welcomed a pod of famous faces to their Sherman Oaks home, where the focus of the elegant backyard fete was raising awareness for whale conservation.
The IFAW convinced the Fisher-Duddy family to gather all those gorgeous gals and handsome men in order to urge them to join their Tales for Whales cause. That's the "visual petition" that the well-respected animal welfare organization recently launched, with celebs, and everyday people, too, showing their support for a stronger U. S. policy of whale protection by being photographed with their hands cupped in the shape of a whale's tail.
Cuties including Amber Valletta, Miss USA 2008 Crystal Stewart, Sasha Alexander, Perrey Reeves of "Entourage" fame, "Rules of Engagement" star Megyan Price, Marisa Coughlin, Bas Rutten, and Vanessa Lengies lined up to add their pics to the collection, while "True Blood" star Kristin Bauer posed with her handsome new hubby, South African musician Abri van Straten of The Lemmings fame. Kristin may have a blood lust on her popular show, but she's so committed to saving the whales from harm that she'll appear at Lush Cosmetics in the 3rd Street Santa Monica Promenade on Saturday November 7 from 1pm to 3pm, to help convince fans to upload their photos too.
"Twilight" star Sarah Clarke happily greeted adorable Missi Pyle and her conservationist husband Casey Anderson; he's part of National Geographic's new channel "Nat Geo Wild," due to launch next year in the U.S.
"We've got to make our voices heard any way we can," Anderson said, in between sips of his "Orca" cocktail courtesy of Cabana Cachaca, one of the night's numerous animal-loving sponsors. Josie Maran and her husband Ali Alborzi agreed with their pocketbooks, as her eponymous cosmetics line was also an important supporter, along with Hint Water and Cadsawan Jewelry, whose Fluke Collection will donate all proceeds to the IFAW to help protect the world's whales from harm.
As the clock struck eleven and Joely Fisher's early morning work call loomed large, guests reluctantly called it a night, but happily headed home with a pretty cloth swag bag from Vineyard Vines that - naturally - featured a whale motif. It was a perfect reminder to keep fighting to help those amazing creatures continue to swim free for generations to come.
