Are you and your significant other too artsy for your own collective good? Always fighting over whether to head to the movies or to a museum? Well this Friday, just call a truce -- LACMA is giving you the chance to do both.
This year's main event begins, guests are invited to get their grub on at a cocktail party held at the A+D Museum right across the street. There will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres and drinks (can you say open bar?), and plenty of opportunities for you to mingle and chat up the cute boy in the scarf, or impress your date with how many things you can refer to as postmodern. And hey, how many of your friends will be able to say they went to a cocktail hour Friday night?
Following the screening, all eight directors will be on hand for a Q&A panel discussion of their work, whose thematic range stretches from the existential, to the futuristic, to those inevitable growing pains, and even to the horror-camp genre. This year's short film selections are nominees for the annual Art of Film Award, which is to be judged by both audience members and a host committee of 4 industry professionals. The winner of the award will receive a trip to the Santa Barbara Film Festival.
The 8th Annual LACMA Young Directors Night is sponsored by LACMA Muse, a group for artists and art enthusiasts which holds special events and parties at the museum multiple times during the year. Young Directors Night is one of Muse's four major annual events.
