Nominees for the 2012 Academy Awards react to learning they in the running for a golden statuette:
Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin, Best Director nominees, 'Undefeated'
"It's an honor to be recognized amongst these amazing filmmakers. We are thrilled for everyone who was involved in making this film, especially the North Memphis community who opened their homes to us and trusted us in telling their story. Now we actually have to acknowledge that this is really happening."Martin Scorsese, Best Director nominee, 'Hugo'
"I am deeply honored to have been nominated by the Academy for my work on Hugo. Every picture is a challenge, and this one -- where I was working with 3D, HD and Sacha Baron Cohen for the first time -- was no exception. It's a wonderful feeling to know that you've been recognized by the people in your industry. I congratulate my fellow nominees. It's an impressive list, and I'm in excellent company."Meryl Streep, Best Actress nominee, 'The Iron Lady'
"I am honored to be in company with such beautiful artists, and touched deeply by my fellow actors for their generosity in giving me this acknowledgment."Enrico Casarosa, director of Best Animated Short nominee 'La Luna'
" 'La Luna' is a deeply personal story for me, and to have it recognized by the Academy is an honor both profound and exhilarating. I know this also means so much to the crew, who believed in this whimsical idea and brought it to life with amazing talent and expertise. On behalf of all of them, I'd like to thank the Academy. This must certainly be how it feels to be over the moon!"Thomas Langmann, producer of Best Picture nominee 'The Artist'
"I am very humbled by this morning's nominations. This must be how my father felt back in 1965 when he received his first Oscar nomination. 'The Artist' was a labor of love from writer/director Michel Hazanavicius to pay homage to Hollywood, and to see all the love that the Academy has given it this morning is overwhelming."Bérénice Bejo, Best Supporting Actress nominee, 'The Artist'
"I'm overjoyed and filled with happiness. I can't believe that a year ago I was learning how to tap dance and today I am nominated for an Academy Award. It was a thrill to work on a project as ambitious as 'The Artist' and I am happy to share this moment with our visionary director, Michel Hazanavicius."Michel Hazanavicius, Best Director nominee, 'The Artist'
"I am so honored for this nomination. Filming 'The Artist' in Los Angeles was a dream come true, and to receive this recognition today is far beyond what I ever imagined. I couldn't have done this film without the incredible cast of actors and outstanding crew whose heart and souls were poured into this project."Set decorator Robert Gould, Art Direction nominee, 'The Artist'
"I am honored to be nominated for an Academy Award for such a beautiful film that is a love letter to Hollywood. Since I was born in Hollywood and second generation in the film business, I went to work each day filled with enthusiasm. I am proud to contribute to something that shows gratitude to the business that has given my family and myself so much gratification."Laurence Bennett, Art Direction nominee, 'The Artist'
"It is truly an honor to have the art direction of 'The Artist' recognized by the Academy. In taking on the unique design opportunity that (director Michel Hazanavicius's) vision offered, we felt a tremendous responsibility to all the artists of early Hollywood. To spend months immersed in their world and their work was a gift to the entire design team -- and our work was inspired, informed, and elevated immeasurably by what they taught us."Ludovic Bource, Best Original Score nominee, 'The Artist'
"I am humbled and overjoyed to learn of my Oscar nomination. Last week I came to Hollywood for the first time in my life, which in of itself was a dream come true. I started playing the accordion when I was 8 years old -- I wish I could go back in time at tell myself about today. The dream continues!"Philippe Falardeau, Foreign Language Film, 'Monsieur Lazhar'
"My producers and I are at Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, right now. We ate Lucky Charms cereal as part of a stupid ritual. I hate those kinds of cereals but my producers said 'Keep on eating.' Then we looked like fools trying to get the Internet site working for the press conference. We had three computers and one iPad and none of us could get the link. Fortunately we got it just in time. When we heard the word Canada we screamed so loud that I didn't even hear the title of my film.""It's a very intimate film that doesn't follow any path that leads to Hollywood in the making. So it's ironic that a small, intimate film like that can coincide alongside big Hollywood productions in the biggest salon in the world. I think I can say it's a dream come true but it's a dream I never had. Of course I embrace it totally now. But I have to keep cool because what it means for the film now is extra leverage in the states."
Lisy Christl, Costume Design, 'Anonymous'
"I'm in the middle of a dream. I live so far away from L.A., from London. Lisy Christl from Germany is nominated for an Oscar. This I have to understand. Maybe tomorrow.""I would love to preserve this feeling: to be myself, in my apartment, in this quietness and to understand that something really great happened in my life."
