With cooler weather, traditionally, comes cooler movies.

This fall’s crop has a lot of the usual awards-seeking suspects ... though we suspect it’s going to be hard for anything else to top “The Dark Knight” this year. But Leonardo DiCaprio will try to — twice (with “Body of Lies” and “Revolutionary Road”).

So will Viggo Mortensen (“Appaloosa,” Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road”), Anne Hathaway (“Rachel Getting Married,” “Passengers”), recent Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman (“Synecdoche, New York,” “Doubt”) and Dakota Fanning (“Hounddog,” “The Secret Life of Bees”).

Samuel L. Jackson is taking three shots, with “Lakeview Terrace,” “Soul Men” and “The Spirit.” Clint Eastwood goes for a ... well, we’re not quite sure how to fraction this out, but he directed Angelina Jolie in “Changeling” and himself in “Gran Torino.” Robert Downey Jr. shows up for a third time this year, in “The Soloist,” with Jamie Foxx, while Brad Pitt and Will Smith try to out-sensitive each other in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and “Seven Pounds,” respectively.

Aiming more for the pop phenomenon franchise crown will be the the James Bond entry “Quantum of Solace,” the vampire romance “Twilight,” action attraction “Max Payne” and the graduated-to-big-screen “High School Musical 3.” And the Batman movie’s success must surely have inspired “Saw V’s” makers to raise the level of quality. We’ve listed all the fall movies we could find below. Release dates are subject to change.
