The Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre

The e-meter knows which celebs have been naughty and nice

Ever since Tom Cruise brought a Scientology tent to the set of War of the Worlds, snipped at Matt Lauer on the "Today" show, publicly scolded Brooke Shields and jumped Oprah's couch, we can't seem to get away from the Hollywood religion du jour. Welcome to its mothership.

Located inside the Manor Hotel, the Celebrity Centre International is where Cruise was groomed as Scientology's biggest star; other devotees who hang out discussing thetans include John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Danny Masterson, Jenna Elfman, Beck, Juliette Lewis, Erika Christensen and, of course, Katie Holmes. Formerly known as the Chateau Elyse, which was built in 1929 as a seven-story replica of a 17th-century French Normandy castle, the Manor Hotel was once home to Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Ginger Rogers, Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. Founded in 1969 and renovated in 1992, the Celebrity Centre offers "listening" classes and Scientology training. The four-star Renaissance Restaurant, 46-seat theatre, Garden Pavilion, film room (where introductory films on Scientology are screened), exercise room, luscious outdoor gardens, reflecting pool and waterfall ensure that nobody wants to leave once on the inside. Potential Scientologists who haven't yet starred in a Spielberg movie can take free tours every day from 9am to 10pm; 12:30pm Sunday services are preceded by 10:30am brunch, and free introductory lectures about the church's Purification Program take place Tuesdays at 7:30pm.

Love the place. So uplifting!

This is one of those "must experience" places for everyone in the creative arts. It is a beautiful and uplifting place. What a pleasure to spend time in such a serene environment that is dedicated to helping artists achieve their creative best.

An oasis in the middle of the Hollywood madness - always has something interesting and exciting happening while at the same time very calming and restful.

Beautiful grounds and excellent service in the restaurant. Nice view from the roof, as well.

I was a soundman on a movie crew who shot a few scenes at the Manor Hotel, it really is a beautiful spot and the staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Highly recommended.
