This smaller, more low-key version of Graumans Chinese Theatre has history of its own.

Fans of Hollywood history will enjoy the tiny Vista Theatre on the border between Los Feliz and Silver Lake. Built in the 1920s at the height of Egypt-mania, the luxe pharaoh-inspired interior was left to decay until a recent refurbishment restored the reds, purples and golds to their intended sheen. In a stroke of brilliance, the owners also removed every other row of seats, creating an unheard-of amount of legroom. Outside, the theatre boasts a miniature version of Grauman's famous plaza of handprints. In keeping with the neighborhood, this one has imprints from offbeat stars like Elvira. But the cost is what cements the Vista's rep as a neighborhood institution: The $8.50 ticket price makes it one of the cheapest first-run theaters in town. —Katherine Spiers

I remember well when The Vista was a run down, dirty mess. I quit going there after seeing a large rat in the men's room. Thanks for reminding me that it is still there and it sounds wonderful. I will make a point of seeing a film there soon.
