Folk: The Next Generation. These are the voyages of four young guys. Their continuing mission, to explore strange new music, to seek out new sounds and new collaborations. To boldy go to Omaha where no one has gone before, and to make a record and then tour some more and be awesome.

The Monsters of Folk collective reads like a deep lineup of heartbreak offenders: Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes, Jim James from My Morning Jacket and singer/songwriter M.Ward (and the "Him" to Zooey Deschanel's "She")

In 2004, this touring band of hair was billed as "An Evening With: Bright Eyes, Jim James and M. Ward." But, like most good nicknames, the handle "Monsters of Folk" started as a joke and ended up sounding better than the original.

Five years and six separate albums later, they finally got into the studio and recorded as a group. The songs were created, recorded, performed and produced entirely by the foursome -- no session players, no hired help. In September, MOF released their first self-titled album on Shangri-La Music.

For beautiful organic melodies and an intimate look at collaboration, head to the The Greek Theatre on Sunday for a live performance of camaraderie, curiosity, and creativity.
