Built in 1936, for over half a century the El Rey Theatre was one of the few first run movie palaces located in L.A.'s historic Miracle Mile district. The theatre was transformed into a live music venue in 1994 and is now a popular spot for artists both big and small to perform. So if you plan on seeing a show there but want to know more about it, then you're in luck! Here is everything you'll need to know before visiting the El Rey Theatre.

Unlike other music venues in the city, the El Rey has plenty of parking options available, including metered parking on the street, which is free after 7 p.m., valet service at the front of the building one hour prior to the show, and a huge parking structure located a block away at 5545 Wilshire Boulevard. If you plan on parking at the structure, it will only cost you $10.

What's the seating situation like?

Many of the shows at the El Rey are general admission, meaning its usually standing room only. That's OK though because the theatre features an intimate grand ballroom that holds a capacity crowd of 700. So no matter where you stand, the sound quality is going to be spectacular. Just be sure to get there early if you want to reserve a spot close to the stage.

What do they serve inside?

The El Rey also has two full service bars located near the rear of the ballroom. Drink prices are a bit steep, however. Expect to pay, on average, between $8 and $11 for beer, and between $9 and $12 for most mixed drinks. As far as food goes, your best bet is to grab a Danger Dog for $5 from any one of the hot dog carts parked outside the theatre after the show.

Are there any good places to eat around there?

Since it's located on the Miracle Mile there are lots of great fast food joints and restaurants located within walking distance from the El Rey. If you're in the mood for a delicious (and affordable) burger, then you'll definitely want to check out the brand new Five Guys Burgers & Fries that just opened up across the street. For sushi there's Slow Fish located at 5406 Wilshire Boulevard. It's open until 11:30 p.m. on the weekends. And if pizza is what you're after, then you'll want to stop into Johnnie's at 5757 Wilshire Boulevard for a fat slice of New York-style thin crust.
