Playing two sets per gig may be a heavy task for Head, who says his spiritual strength makes it possible, and he's having fun with both bands.
Before Love & Death could come together, Head first needed to free himself of the addictions that had hold of his soul and body. And that's where his faith comes in.
He also had to fight for the name Love & Death.
"We used to go under the name Brian 'Head' Welch," says drummer Dan Johnson, "and Head was kind of tired of that. He didn't want to have a solo project like that. He wanted a band name that did not seem like a one-man-band.
So is Love & Death part of the Christian metal genre? "I do not think we are a Christian band -- no," says Johnson. "It's just a hard rock band."
Love & Death is wrapping up this tour with Asking Alexandria and KoRn with gigs in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Then they head to Dallas for a Halloween show with Five Finger Death Punch, KoRn, Gemini Syndome and possibly Rob Zombie, though his spot on the bill is still being nailed down.
Love & Death's first album, "Between Here & Lost," came out in January on Tooth and Nail Records. An expanded edition also available with one new track and two remixes.
