This is the warning that the Hollywood Bowl gives about “Hair,” the famed 1968 rock musical that will play there tonight through Sunday: “Includes simulated drug use, brief nudity, profanity, questioning of religion, blatant sexual positioning, refusal of authority, energy, love, beads, flowers and happiness ... so enjoy!”
Ah, the hippie era — sounds like a lot of reasons to go and lots of fun.
The production stars Kristen Bell (“Frozen,” “Veronica Mars,” “House of Lies”), “Modern Family’s” Sarah Hyland, pop singer Mario, and “Glee’s” Jenna Ushkowitz, among others, and is directed and choreographed by Adam Shankman, who helmed the film adaptation of “Hairspray” and is a judge on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Born in a time of the counterculture, anti-war movement and sexual revolution of the 1960s, the musical spawned hits like “Aquarius,” “Good Morning Starshine,” and “Easy to be Hard.” By the way, one of the original Broadway cast members was Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton.
