WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA (August 12, 2014) – Nederlander Concerts and Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF) organizers today announced that Los Angeles producer and DJ, DESTRUCTO will perform on day two of SSMF, Sunday, September 21. In addition, the MURS 3:16 Stage has been added to the two-day music festival Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21 on the famed Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, CA.
DESTRUCTO (Gary Richards), one of today's most pre-eminent West Coast DJ and producers, will appear at SSMF in support of his newest track “Party Up feat. YG” (Interscope Records) where he takes on a new sound called “G-house” that merges deep house grooves with smooth rap flows. He is also founder and CEO of HARD Events—the world-renowned event and festival company recognized for landmark festivals such as HARD SUMMER, HARD Day of the Dead and the three-day electronic music cruise HOLY SHIP! He has been included on the “50 Most Important People in EDM” list by Rolling Stone twice, Billboard's “EDM Power Player” list, InTheMix's “50 Most Powerful People in EDM” list and Do Androids Dance's “20 Most Influential People in EDM” list. DESTRUCTO will perform prior to the Australian electronic music duo EMPIRE OF THE SUN who headlines the festival on Sunday, September 21. Mayer Hawthorne, Iration, Big Data, Tove Lo, Big Freedia, We Came as Romans, Nostalghia and Fenech-Soler, will round out Sunday's festival.
MURS 3:16 will curate a third stage at SSMF and personally hand select artists to perform during the two-day music festival. The well-known MC whose career spans over a decade, has performed at over 20 tours spanning 5 continents, with 11 solo albums, and a seemingly infinite list of collaborations. His songs have been licensed by multiple video games; Madden, NBA 2K, Tony Hawk and many more. MURS' music has also been used in several television programs and films. Musically he's collaborated with underground legends like Atmosphere, 9th Wonder, and members of Bad Brains. He's also created tracks with mainstream icons like Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg and Will.i.am. His festival platform PAID DUES leads the way for him to musically connect with untapped talent.
MURS signed a new recording deal with independent power house label Strange Music in January 2014. His first collaborative project entitled “MURSDAY” with label mates ¡MAYDAY! was released June 10 and debuted #4 on the independent rap charts. He's currently in the process of recording his long-awaited solo project “Love & Rockets 2” expected to be released in spring 2015.
The MURS 3:16 stage adds a new element to SSMF and rounds out the two-day street festival that also includes, interactive experiences, food, beverage and much more. Sunset Boulevard will be closed to traffic between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard from 2:00-11:00 p.m. on Saturday and 2:00-10:00 p.m. on Sunday. Iconic venues lining The Strip including, Whisky A Go-Go, The Roxy and Viper Room will host live performances for ticketed attendees throughout the day and into the night and after the street fest closes until 2:00 a.m. Entrance is first-come, first-served.
JANE'S ADDICTION will headline the first day of SSMF on Saturday, September 20 and play Nothing's Shocking in its entirety. The day will be packed full of performances by Failure, Cold War Kids, ††† (Crosses), Minus the Bear, Kaiser Chiefs, The Birds of Satan, Nightmare and the Cat, Beware of Darkness and Say Say.
Tickets for the 2014 SSMF street festival are on sale now via the official ticketing provider, Eventbrite, at https://SSMF2014.eventbrite.com. Ticket options include: Single Day General Admission for $75 or a 2-Day festival pass for $125.
VIP tickets range from $149-$499 per ticket and include in-and-out privileges from the festival, access to the rooftop VIP area with views of the West stage, plus additional amenities that vary per level.
