All that needs to be known about Silver Lake's indie-rock haven can be learned from the lineup of the first show at the venue. It was a benefit for the now-defunct experimental rock band Lutefisk and they headlined along with local legends Possum/Dixon, Beck, and a little band called Foo Fighters, who were playing their fifth show ever.

Since then, Spaceland's maintained its reputation as a spot for bands to play when they're on their way to breaking big (Arcade Fire, The Shins) when they're already big (Weezer) or when there's no chance in hell of ever getting big (look at a calendar and point to a random night.) For a sure thing, head out on Monday for their free local residencies: The club's bookers always have a knack for finding the next-big-thing and giving 'em to you gratis, first. —Jeff Miller
