Unlike many cartoonish local margarita spots, this dimly lit bar feels like a funky, across-the border tequila bar.

The bar dominates the festive square space, and pages (and pages!) of tequila selections dominate the menu booklet: This is a fun, feisty neighborhood bar. (Try the pineapple-infused tequila, and the "Mexito," a snappy variation on a mojito.) But the serviceable food options are surprisingly tasty, and—given the pricey tchotchkes in the trendy neighborhood shops surrounding it—very reasonably priced. Filled with hip, friendly young things ready to deal with a hangover in the morning, El Carmen gets loud. Those who arrive early enough to snag a table, though, remain in the action, no matter the seat: Even those facing the wall have a view, thanks to the huge tilted mirror running the length of said wall. Expected options (tacos, enchiladas, guac) are complemented by a killer corn-on-the-cob and tasty ribs. —Lonny Pugh

I love El Carmen! Their margaritas are so delish! Love the food and how much they keep expanding the menu. Service is friendly and it's an awesome atmosphere.
