Broadway BarDowntown goes gangster glam ![]() Based on Jack Dempsey's New York bar of the same name, Broadway Bar brings '40s-style glam to Downtown's burgeoning nightlife scene with antique touches and a lounge fit for a kingpin.Nightlife entrepreneur Cedd Moses (The Golden Gopher, 4100 Bar) continues his revitalization of Downtown nightlife by teaming up with New York club magnate Joe Baxley (Aubette, formerly of Centro-Fly) to open Broadway Bar, a shout-out to the fabulous era of mobsters and starlets. Housed in a 3,800-square-foot space next to the Orpheum Theater, the bar is trumpeted by a sign shining as brightly as its neighbor's. The 50-foot circle bar, the chandeliers, the swanky upstairs lounge and the street-facing smoking patio reel in patrons from all over LA. But it's the low-key vibe and open-door attitude that really differentiates Downtown lounges from their Hollywood counterparts. —Enid Portuguez
