One of Manhattan Beach's oldest bars—formerly known as The Surf—serves up cheap drinks and tasty bar bites to local surfers and beachgoers. No shirt? No shoes? Let's party!

Locals, pro volleyball players and visiting beach bums frequent the "Cheers"-style neighborhood bar for its friendly-to-all atmosphere. Large tinted windows lining the ocean-facing exposed-brick wall keep the sun out of surfers' eyes as they compare big-wave stories over pitchers of beer; tacky plastic blow-up merchandise from past volleyball tours hang from the ceiling. Better entertainment options include the televisions perched in every corner of the bar playing sports games and surf videos, or the arcade games and classic-rock jukebox in the back. The weekend starts on Thursday nights when locals with no patience for the line at Beaches across the street come over for a drink—and stay until closing.—Sarah Spada
