At night, this gold rush-themed restaurant morphs into a rocker-chic bar stuffed with twentysomethings eager for stiff, reasonably priced drinks and no Hollywood pretense.

Open since 1965, the Prospector feels like the Long Beach version of "Cheers," but with sweaty hipsters and a statue of an old prospector. The staff is friendly and many of the chic patrons operate on a first-name basis with them. For those not in the mood to make the trek up to Silver Lake to see bands play, the Prospector has six nights of live rock and electro acts ranging from Dim Mak Records' Dance Disaster Movement to a Devo tribute band to whoever takes the stage during the wild Friday-night karaoke.—Tatiana Simonian
