Former real-estate agent Vianey Delgadillo recently jumped on the Downtown-revival bandwagon by purchasing Latino gay bar The Score and turning it into a kitschy-cool hub for artists, loft-dwellers and USC grads.

Delgadillo hit flea markets and antique shops for decorations like a disco ball, vintage pin-up photos, plastic deer heads (two wearing sunglasses), an Indian statue, a light-up rooster, biblical paintings, a jukebox and an oversize clock. Surprisingly, her assorted treasures don't clutter up the space, which is painted red to match the candles and vinyl booths; they give the four-room venue a cozy feel. Happy hour is 3pm to 8pm daily, except Tuesdays when it lasts from open to close. There's live jazz on Mondays and bands and DJs play old-school, hip hop, punk and '70s love songs from Wednesays through Sundays. Adding to the quirk factor are events like a scooter rally party and a fundraiser for the Derby Dolls roller derby team.—Alexandra Le Tellier

This bar rocks hard, great domestic beers, good prices, cool staff and derby dolls. I don't know what else you need or want in a bar. The only downside is the mens bathroom is a bit sketchy.
