Tips: The restaurant stops serving its American-style cafe fare at 10pm.

The outdoor courtyard at this bar and restaurant feels like a European plaza, albeit one filled with a relaxed Westside crowd.

Smoking and non-smoking Westsiders congregate in the stone-floored courtyard, a leafy, open-air oasis lit up with red and white twinkle lights. Coveted tables in the narrow space are quickly taken, but the cafe has five other rooms and three bars as well. Toulouse-Lautrec and Gustav Klimt posters hang on the walls not painted with murals of vines or 1920s bathing beauties—all of which creates an old-world, run-down atmosphere that's full of charm. Except, of course, for the room decorated with porcelain dolls that glare down at patrons with their glassy eyes. (Totally creepy!) On weeknights, locals can leisurely sip a glass of wine over dinner, but on weekends, the bar gets crowded with thirsty, nubile twentysomethings. One Saturday night, we spied Elijah Wood having drinks with friends. They avoided the doll room. —Mai Dinh
