The Echo's been one of the hippest indie-rock clubs in LA, and—if everything goes as planned—it's about to get even hipper. As Ben Lee would say, that's the way we like it.

The Echo is Spaceland's younger sister—the one with the dyed hair and cool tattoos you check out while pretending to play video games with her brother. Like her, the Echo's got it all: from indie bands to the booty-shakin' reggae-dancehall-dub bonanza "Dub Club" on Wednesdays to "Hang the DJ," featuring '60s and Britpop classics every third Saturday. The venue recently expanded to encompass a new space downstairs, called the ExPlx, which has further cemented the Spaceland/Echo duo as the one-two punch of the Silver Lake scene.—Jeff Miller
