Decked out like the set of a B-grade Western flick—with empty bottles lining the walls, red vinyl booths and a porch-style bar—this neighborhood spot attracts Eastside hipsters on a budget.

In this part of town, the bar scene is like a game of musical chairs, with The Short Stop, Little Joy Jr. and The Roost rotating in popularity. One weekend The Roost is the most crowded spot in the neighborhood; the next, it's the most low-key spot in LA. But the drinks are always cheap and stiff and the free popcorn machine is always popping. If you do happen upon a quiet night, it just means you have the bartender's attention and free reign over the TV.—Alexandra Le Tellier
