Metal Skool

On January 01, 2007

Heavy-metal hellraisers rock you like a hurricane

Covering hair-metal classics with equal doses of humor and head-bangin' swagger, Metal Skool (formerly called Metal Shop and also known as Danger Kitty) continue to make Monday the Strip's most rockin'—and star-studded—night.

When celeb owner Johnny Depp—and pretty much the entire staff—said adios to The Viper Room in 2003, the club's popular metal mash-up smartly decided to move as well. After all, the VR was always so packed, patrons had to arrive hours early just to get in for the best part: Metal Shop's midnight set, which often featured real rock stars (everyone from Paul Stanley to Steven Tyler) jamming on stage. Then it went to The Roxy where it had a sucessful run, drawing in fans like Jessica Simpson and Lindsay Lohan. (They rock out?) Now Metal Skool has found a new home at the Key Club, which provides more space for more bodies. Rock stars like Scott Weiland and Tommy Lee (and Cuba Gooding, jr.!) have been known to jump on stage and jam with the band, and the VIP lounge oozes with an addictive mix of rock, metal, indie and new wave. —Lina Lecaro
