Smooth finished hardwood tables, comfortable chairs, and the orange blanket of light from candles both electric and flamed give this pub a charming balance of comfort and class—something not usually found in a neighborhood bar.

The price-setters seem to have taken an egalitarian view of beer that borders on the sarcastic. A fresh from the tap, semi-rare offering of Belgian treats like Chimay Cinq Cent or Delirium Tremens will set you back the same $5 as a ubiquitous Miller Lite. If your taste falls somewhere in the middle, there's still more than 30 tap choices varying from colorfully named microbrews like Rogue Dead Guy to old staples such as Sam Adams and Stella Artois. Patrons looking to soak up their ale will find classic pub offerings with an upscale twist like chicken fingers with a gorgonzola sauce. Most food selections cost less than $10 so it won't hurt to sample a few. The public house allure brings a crowd as diverse as Los Angeles itself: no one is unwelcome or uncomfortable except for the wine drinker. If it's vino you crave, it'll run you over twice the price of a pint and the cheapest bottle is a hefty $34. For the beer drinker though, The 3rd Stop offers a respite from hectic work schedules to catch up with friends while watching ESPN on one of the HD-TVs that are never out of sight.—Pierluigi Cothran
