With its dim lighting and exposed brick walls, this Santa Monica incarnation may seem a little more laid-back than its older Pasadena sibling, but the focus on uncommon wines at low prices has remained the same.

You don't have to be an oenophile to enjoy Bodega's list of domestic and European samplings. The selections—featuring hints of everything from chocolate to cherries—are diverse, but the quantity of choices is set at a manageable twenty-four. The bar keeps all its wines at the fixed price of $8 per glass and $30 bottle, except of course for some good specials. Tuesdays, bottles are $20; Wednesdays, Modelos are $2; Sundays, sake shots are a buck. The menu also offers soju cocktails and features simple and tasty bites. Sure, a cheese plate makes sense, but those feeling less conventional should try the grilled white chocolate ice cream sandwich, made with challah bread. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, when the bar hosts DJs spinning tunes, are packed. —Tara Tyson
