Following in the stylish footsteps of recent Downtown additions The Edison and The Redwood Bar & Grill, Seven Grand caters to Downtown’s burgeoning loft-dweller community with a hip hunting-club aesthetic and a staggering selection of premium whiskeys.

Named after a nearby intersection (though it's technically closer to Seventh & Olive), Seven Grand is the dark, ironic-chic whiskey bar Downtown didn't know it was missing. Located at the site of the old Clifton's Silver Spoon, this venture from Cedd Moses and 213 Ventures (Broadway Bar, Golden Gopher) has a private hunting-club feel (stuffed heads and all) and features a pool table, cozy outdoor smoking patio, and a digital jukebox that shuffles songs from jazz standards to virtually the entire Pixies catalog (what, no "Come on Pilgrim"?). But the real star of Seven Grand is the whiskey: Generous shots of more than 100 varieties of the amber stuff are doled out by a staff well-versed in all things whiskey and rye. Shots will run you between $7 and—gulp—$120, and come with supercool, nitrogen-formed ice cubes that melt slower than standard ice cubes and won't water down your drink. And for whiskey-phobes, Seven Grand also offers a dozen premium beers on tap—from Stella to Fat Tire to Chimay, although coming to Seven Grand and not ordering whiskey would be sacrilege, kind of like hitting up Zankou and skipping on the garlic sauce. —Amir Kenan
