With Privilege and Hyde under their belt, SBE Entertainment and Bolthouse Productions expand their nightlife empire with Area, a nod-to-Mod nightclub on La Cienega Boulevard.

Conveniently situated near glam eateries Republic and Koi, Area is a natural choice for after-dinner revelry by the monied patrons frequenting this stretch of La Cienega. The space's latest incarnation (once the dark, exotic Prey and, before that, The Gate) is more exposed and streamlined than either of its predecessors, making it easier for beautiful people to congregate and marvel at one another. The décor was conceptualized by Beau Robb, the man who ushered Privilege into its red era. He went the opposite direction with Area by giving it a lush, bright and clearly Mod-inspired interior—low, leather Barcelona chairs, wood columns and retractable glass walls are some of its features. Cocktail waitresses, decked in black-and-white minidresses and white patent-leather boots, sashay with aplomb across the spacious dance floor to tunes spun by DJs StoneRokk and Vice. As with any other Bolthouse-run institution, the door policy is strict, so come cash-handy or connected if you dare to step foot inside this Area. —Enid Portuguez
