Cabana Hopping Guide

Cabana Hopping Guide

On the beach, cabanas provide respite from the heat. In the nightlife scene, however, cabanas are all about getting in on the hot after-dark action. Those who shell out skip the lines and draw the groupies. Get your wallet out—you're going to need it.—Alexandra Le Tellier

1.

Cabana Club

This Hollywood club is like an exclusive beach resort complete with waterfalls and scantily clad girls. It's not easy to get in, especially when Joe Joe promotes on Thursdays, but forking over $300 for bottle service guarantees entrance and a private cabana until 2am. Bring a date and shut the curtains.

2.

Cameo Bar at Viceroy Hotel

What does it cost to sip key-lime martinis and pineapple mojitos among the rich and fabulous in Santa Monica? On weekends, the cabanas by the pool cost $600-$800 and there's a hefty appetizer-and-drink minimum. It's worth the money if you've got it, though we'd probably have to sleep on the beach afterward.

3.

Tropicana Bar

The poolside cabanas at the Roosevelt are like hotel rooms, each with a king-size bed and a plasma TV. But the reason people pay $700-$1,500 per night is to get guaranteed entrance to the A-list Tropicana Bar.

4.

M Lounge at Republic

Eating dinner or having drinks in a cabana at this trendy ultra lounge is an option, but when we were here Tori Spelling was using it as a place to straddle husband Dean McDermott.

5.

The Bungalow Club

This hipster haven's Lawrence of Arabia theme is reflected in the candle-lined dining room and the curtained cabanas on the patio. On weeknights, cabanas are generally first-come, first-serve and are occupied by the bar crowd. Cabanas must be reserved on Friday and Saturday nights, however, and are available for two-hour increments from 5:30pm to 1:30am. A $30 food or beverage minimum is also enforced.

6.

Stone Rose Lounge

The cozy cabanas at this sleek hotel bar don't provide much intimacy, but they do offer a prime view of the shenanigans going on inside the bar.

7.

The Vanguard

Inside, the Vanguard is an industrial warehouse-turned-megaclub. Outside is an urban oasis with cushy cabanas, which are free most nights.

8.

blue on blue

When the in-crowd seeks a hidden oasis, to blue on blue they go. Intimacy is found in the private poolside cabanas, which are not a serene blue as we pictured, but rather bright yellow. A cocktail cabana costs a minimum of $150 to rent and there's a $500 purchase minimum. Good thing the pomegranate margaritas are so addictive!

9.

Chapter 8 Steakhouse

They're even hip to cabanas in Agoura Hills.

I can't believe how short this list is...
