Feeling the heat from nearby Star Shoes and Cinespace, Hollywood nightspot Ivar has been given a very-Hollywood facelift.

Facade is an expansive, industrial, see-and-be-seen space that attracts a diverse group of Hollywood hipsters—with an equally diverse designer hoodie collection—for whom dancing and grinding are synonymous. Just beyond the velvet rope, the covered patio (smokers, rejoice!) has been fitted with its own fully-stocked pre-bar to get your pre-clubbing pre-drink on. Inside, go-go dancers shake their moneymakers under a spinning disco ball, while a small stage near the prominently featured DJ booth hosts fashion shows, pop-and-lock artists, and, yes, the occasional bikini contest. But the real showstopper at Facade is the second-floor lounge: Completely enclosed by glass walls, this plush, VIP-only section looks and feels like a giant fish tank (to push the point, illuminated jellyfish art flanks the space). Weekly events at Facade include hip-hop flavored nights for twentysomethings, a high-roller night for thirtysomethings, and an underground indie night for indiesomethings. —Amir Kenan
