Faces: Ryan Cook

Faces: Ryan Cook

As one of the most recognizable faces on the Hollywood scene (the blonde afro is hard to miss), the Canadian-born Ryan Cook says promoting is something he could do in his sleep. You've seen him everywhere, from episodes of "The Hills" to skating on Sunset Blvd. and after almost 4 years on the scene, this down-to-earth promoter/skater/actor/drummer (yes, he does it all) hasn't been jaded by the fast lane. See below to see where this Hollywood insider stays grounded. – Stephanie Ocampo

RSVP to Ryan's parties at Opera and Crimson at ryancook3@aol.com

1.

What was your first promoting gig?

My first gigs were Friday nights at Concorde, now it’s Shag, and Thursday nights at XES, now Sugar.

2.

What is your favorite venue to throw parties at?

I really like Opera – we do Fridays. I think it’s one of the best designed clubs in L.A., so far. But, I have great memories everywhere. I always try to have fun. If a promoter is showing that he’s not having fun, it’ll affect other people’s vibes, so I always try to put on my Hollywood face when I go out.

3.

Besides Fridays at Opera, what other parties are you promoting right now?

Fridays at Opera are consistently consistent. We just started doing Tuesdays at Crimson and it’s been really really good. Things are popping up and new opportunities are gonna come my way soon and I’ll definitely keep LA.com posted.

4.

After a long night of partying – where do you like to go for some late night grub?

I definitely stick to Hollywood. I’m a 101 Coffee Shop kind of guy. I like the mac & cheese there.

5.

What was the best party you’ve been to in LA?

Joe Francis’ birthday at Six Flags Magic Mountain was insane. They rented it out and it was open bars and free food everywhere. It was like 1,500 Hollywood socialites and celebs, and you got to go on all the rides over and over again as much as you wanted with double drinks in hand. DJ AM was spinning too, that was a good party.

6.

What club parties stand out in your memory?

There’s always good parties in L.A., but at Nacional once, for Jesse Metcalfe’s birthday, the Ying Yang Twins walked in. I gave them a bottle of Patron and they did 3 songs, and it was just me and all my friends at Nacional and they were right on the dancefloor just singing and rapping. It was pretty sick.

7.

Where can we find you on nights when you're not partying?

I love music, so I really like to go to shows. My favorite venue to see shows would probably be The Greek or the Hollywood Bowl. I’ll literally go anywhere where there’s good music, though. I’m big into rock – I love The Beatles, The Stones, AC/DC, Nirvana, Soundgarden. Nowadays, it’s Shiny Toy Guns, The Shins, The Sounds. I just like watching fun bands with good vibes that make me smile.

8.

What's the best show you've been to recently?

Linkin Park at the Ritual opening party. They invited 200 people and I knew the publicist and she walked us to the front of the stage. I was literally right in front of the stage with my hands on the speakers and they were right there 5 feet away from me. I thought they were only going to do 3 songs and they ended up doing, like, 15. It was insane. The drummer gave me his drumsticks [in hand at interview] and I’m actually going to go audition for a band after this.

9.

If you could only eat at one restaurant in L.A. for the rest of your life – which restaurant would it be?

I love Geisha House. There’s always Koi and Matsuhisa too, but I really love Geisha House. I order the Taro Taro, the Hollywood Roll, the Red Dragon Roll, and the beef skewers. I get the same thing every time. I love that place, they always take care of me there. I just reaally love sushi, too.

10.

If today was your last day in L.A., how would you spend it?

In the morning – I’d wake up at 4 or 5am because if it was my last day, I’d want to live it up. I’d start off surfing in Leo Carillos (with hopefully head high waves) and then I’d go down to Duke’s in Malibu for breakfast.

11.

How would you end your last day in L.A.?

I’d take a hike up Runyon Canyon and just chill up there and watch the sunset. I love it there – I’d just sit on the bench and watch the sun fade away. Then, I’d go a really good sushi restaurant before going to my good-bye party and good-bye after party and I’d rock it out until the plane deported me.
