The gentlemanly bartenders from Q’s Billiards opened up their own establishment to give Westsiders a taste of the South.

South has become the hotspot west of the 405, roping masses of people from all over the 310 — the professionals, frat brahs, beach bums, and the “Sloshed-from-Cabo-Cantina”  make up the bar’s diverse crowd. Unlike L.A. haunts plagued with pretentious attitudes and exclusivity, the Southern charm is infectious in this welcoming and roomy space.

All the Dixie fixins find their home on the menu.  Seriously, what goes better with alcohol than fried Southern food?  (Alcohol + Fried Food = BFF)  Nothing is more beautiful than the pairing of Southern cocktails and fried green tomatoes/pickles/okra/hush puppies/sweet potato fries/anything.  Mint Juleps are served in mason jars, and even the rare New Orleans beer, Dixie Lager, is served on tap. The menu is definitely Southern, but everything else is pretty L.A. The DJ spins a mix of the top-40 and rock n’ roll in a room full of ‘Sportscenter’-centric plasma TVs. There are two private rooms, including one complete with a projection screen where patrons can get Wii-tarded with a night of fierce virtual sports-playing.

A generous happy hour is offered between 3pm - 8pm from Monday to Friday. The crowds start rolling in on the weekends as early as 6pm. A monstrous line begins to form as the night stretches on, so come early. Although this is a bigger than average lounge, there is never enough seating to accommodate the masses. —Josephine Vu
