Long gone are the stripper poles and sawdust of club XES—an ultra-modern makeover has turned the formerly seedy hotspot into a club that proved swanky enough to host Us Weekly’s Hot Young Hollywood party.

To say that Sugar's décor is impressive is an understatement. The expansive main room is lined by sleek, angular couches where VIPs stir cocktails with sticks of rock candy; smokers, on the other hand, retreat to the smaller yet equally impressive lounge outside. The sweetest thing (literally) about Sugar are the blush-toned lit walls adorned with rock candy. The night we were there, Cisco Adler (fully clothed, thank God!) performed with his band Whitestarr; DJ Eric D-Lux spun a mix of Top 40 and '90s R&B for a crowd that chose to complain about not getting into Ritual instead of, you know, dancing. We even witnessed an almost catfight over paper towels on our trip to the ladies room. The promoters read like a list of reality TV alums: Tomik, seen on "The Bad Girls Club," promotes on Thursdays and Greg Carney of MTV’s "Twentyfourseven" promotes on Saturdays. With a venue chic enough to satisfy any partygoer's sweet tooth, it's disappointing that the crowd's B-list attitudes left a sour taste in our mouth. Maybe the sugar high just takes awhile? —Stephanie Ocampo
