The Kids Cotton ClubDanny Masterson and all that jazz... ![]() The Hollywood incarnation of the infamous 1920's speakeasy ended its two-year run Sunday nights at Guy’s and relocated to an unnamed space somewhere behind the Green Door (ha!) and Cabana Club, co-opting part of the old Sunset Room on Cahuenga.Walk up to the inconspicuous door (this space has no name and only a red neon “Jazz” sign denotes the scene within) and expect to get the once-over. Guys, ties are a must; girls, Masterson says, are most comfortable in dresses. And please, no rolling of the eyes when asked to shell out the mandatory $10 cover. Hosts Masterson and Firstman pay cover too, and all money from the door goes to the band. After the relatively attitude-free door process is over, Hollywood jazz enthusiasts and celebs alike are treated to a changing slate of local jazz musicians, as well as special guest singers, some of whom the club flies in just for the night. The usual suspects will be there—vest-wearing, newsie cap-donning men (sometimes with elbow-patched blazers) and Eastside gamines channeling Veronica Lake. The space works well for the evening—a corner stage anchors the room, while cocktail tables and high-legged chairs line one side of the re-incarnated speakeasy-ish lounge. The evening is an escape from over-hyped clubs, and if you’re looking for (thoughtful) live music, you won’t find a better looking crowd to enjoy it with. — Alexis Johnson
