Temporary SpacesA roaming party that's here to stay ![]() Venture into the bowels of Hollywood untamed by the likes of SBE or the Alliance — Temporary Spaces, the roaming pop-up party created by DJ Sean Patrick, transforms unlikely locations into hipster havens, appealing to all who love the thrill of knowing about an underground hotspot.Theoretically once the word gets out, the party "seamlessly moves into a new space the next weekend," says Sean Patrick, making each location a new volume in the encyclopedia of Hollywood nightlife. Located in a nondescript corner bar on Fountain and Normandie, Temporary Spaces is, naturally, sans sign and equipped with a hepcat door guy. Inside, the low-lit mirrored interior resembles a spaciously reinterpreted New York corridor bar—the ones with standing room only. Except here, tufted leather banquettes line the walls where it's easy to grab a seat. But it's the concept behind Temporary Spaces — "a constantly moving bar/performance venue that sets up shop in one space, only to disappear after several months and magically pop up somewhere totally different," says Patrick—that sets it apart. Patrick has hosted a 5-course vegan meal and multiple-designer trunk shows and Alex Greenwald from Phantom Planet and Chief have also played to intimate crowds there. Still on Volume 1, Temporary Spaces has yet to be anything but temporary—it's been there since June 2007. Although Patrick says Volume 2 should be happening beginning of March, it's still a secret where it will be…of course. Open only Thursday and Saturday nights and full of respectable hipsters and 10% jipsters (or junior hipsters, among whom stone-washed jeans weren't ironic). The lack of pretentiousness is surprisingly refreshing — so if you're looking to be anonymous for the night while listening to guest DJ’s like Lady Sovereign, Adam 12 or Skeet Skeet, get there early for the free vodka from 10-11pm. — Alexis Johnson
