A locals-approved weekend party sans bridge-and-tunnel bim/himbos
The aptly named party would make even Michael Jackson proud with the crowd’s fun-loving, eclectic look, downtown moves and full-blown willingness to strike a pose.
Get ready for your close-up at PYT, where the city’s coterie of artsy-fartsy Eastsiders and Hollywood stylists line up to get their mugs snapped by fave night-owl photog Jiro. His over-the-top set up of lights, large-scale backdrop and Madonna-circa-“Vogue” attitude (think ’s Next Top Model, not Glamour Shots by Deb) makes every hepcat at Jimmy’s Lounge look like a tragically hip Kate Moss or Pete Dougherty.
Resident DJ Desert Eagles spins a menagerie of high-energy mash ups inside on the disco-balled dance floor, while the less mobile grab a seat in the cushy leather booths across the bar or under the covered patio outside. The night’s vibe mixes the low lighting and friends-of-friends requirement of a neighborhood dive with the antics and outfits found at Cinespace Tuesdays, minus the hipper-than-thou stigma. When taking a break from a balls-out dance-a-thon, sneak a drink from one of the two bars and stick around the smoking patio out back—the stripper pole makes for a good conversation starter. If you forgot to RSVP, make sure to schmooze PYT’s promoters MFG and GracieCakes as it’s at their discretion whether you get in. –Alexis Johnson
