Yoga Works--WestwoodWhere Westside moms and UCLA students work it ![]() Almost 100 classes are taught at this studio each week, with an emphasis on Hatha, Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga. The Yoga Works empire stretches all the way from Santa Monica to New York City, and this might be one of the nicer studios of the lot—though the harp built into the hallway wall usually only sounds off when a yogi accidentally hits it with a mat. Despite its close proximity to the Crest Theatre's bright, flashing lights and traffic-clogged Wilshire Boulevard, the studio offers a nice reprieve. There are two rooms for yoga here, so make sure to ask where class is before settling in: Accidentally stumbling into a level-three class might be good sitcom material, but we don't recommend trying it in real life. There's also a Pilates studio, and a rather large bathroom equipped with a shower (a yoga-studio rarity!). Kara Price's Yoga Works (for levels one and two) are favorites since they're challenging enough for more advanced students and easy enough for newbies, but they're really closer to a two than a one, so be prepared. Raghunath's flow classes (for levels two and three) are a good option for well-seasoned practitioners and those tired of hearing the sounds of ocean waves or Moby during class; he ends every class by playing classical Indian songs on his harmonium. —Elisa Jacobs![]()
