Legend has it that when the Colorado Street Bridge was being built, a workman fell to his death into the wet cement 150 feet below; it is said that if you listen closely, you can hear his cries today.

That said, the bridge is less depressing in the daytime. Built in 1913 for wagons that couldn't climb or descend the canyon, the bridge has a unique, artful curve, the result of the canyon's uneven bottom. During the Great Depression, nearly 100 people committed suicide here, earning the location the rather morbid nickname "Suicide Bridge." These days, the recently restored bridge is a minor thoroughfare and nice pedestrian stroll, with romantic street lamps and great views of the Rose Bowl to the north. Each summer, the architectural landmark is the site of the Celebration on the Colorado Street Bridge, an evening of food, entertainment and crafts.
