Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena

If a building was ever a sports widow, this is her

The Sports Arena is like the Elizabeth Taylor of sports venues: a perpetually confident bride that, sadly, becomes a perpetual divorcee.

The Lakers, Kings and Clippers have all made The Sports Arena their interim home before moving on to grander venues, leaving it to host much lower-key events. (USC basketball, which used to provide the arena's primary action has since moved on to the new on-campus arena, the Galen Center.) Dedicated by then-Vice President Richard Nixon in 1959 (Nixon dedicated the arena to all who had served their country during wartime), the Sports Arena does get credit for attracting the Lakers to Los Angeles, landing the Kings as an NHL expansion team, and moving the Clippers up from San Diego (uh, thanks?). And while LAMSA may be starting to show its age, it's not a bad venue for events such as the circus, ice shows and hydraulic low-rider competitions. Someone has to the host the Mega Praise Gospel Fest, right?
