It may take a while to afford that mansion in Beverly Hills. In the mean time, feel free to visit this one—for free.

Built for oil heir Ned Doheny, Greystone Mansion claims the prize for largest home in Beverly Hills—no small feat in this enclave of mega-mansions. But his story ends like a noir movie; Doheny was murdered in the new home by his associate, Hugh Plunkett (the film Chinatown loosely depicts the murder and its motive). But don't worry, the mansion grounds aren't haunted, or at least as far we know. Two areas of the mansion are currently open to the public: the formal gardens (which also boast a rather large fountain), and the pool and inner courtyard. Picnic lunches are permitted, but picnickers must call in advance for permission. The interior of the mansion, which has made cameos in Indecent Proposal, The Bodyguard, What Women Want and The Big Lebowski is closed to the public. However, those who want to take a peek inside can do so at one of the special events that are regularly scheduled at the mansion: events range from afternoon high tea to an annual flower and garden show to free concerts from the Beverly Hills Symphony. Just keep in mind that ticketed events tend to sell out quickly.
