Don't expect Japanese calligraphy or watercolors of bamboo. GR2, brought to you by the creators of the Asian culture mag Giant Robot, is dedicated to lowbrow art of all stripes.

First there was the magazine Giant Robot, then the store to sell the magazine. Now publisher Eric Nakamura and editor Martin Wong have expanded their Asian-American dynasty into the art world with this gallery space, located across the street from the store. Nakamura and Wong use GR2 like their bedroom walls, showcasing artwork by their friends. Exhibit openings draw trendy GR fans together to dig on freebies from Red Bull and Altoids, and jam to DJs that owe the guys a favor for one reason or another. Although the magazine reports the latest in Asian and Asian-American pop culture, the equal-opportunity GR2 features artists from all backgrounds. (Souther Salazar's bright, comic-like drawings and paintings have been exhibited.) GR2 also sells spillover merch from the Giant Robot store, with a focus on design and art. T-shirts, prints, posters and art books are stocked on the shelves, including works from Yoshitomo Nara, Takashi Murakami and Barry McGee.
