One of the best ways to see an actual movie star or famous director in the Botoxed flesh is at this Hollywood landmark, designed to resemble an Egyptian temple.

The American Cinematheque film society helped restore and now runs the Egyptian Theatre, which screens silent movies, classics, independent films and retrospectives. A majority of the screenings comprise different Cinematheque-selected series, which usually run for about two weeks. There's something for everyone at some point during the year, whether it's a flick from The Golden Age of British Horror, a little-known film noir, a Marlon Brando classic or an obscure Japanese samurai saga. The theater is also a popular spot for film festivals—National Geographic's All Roads Film Festival, Los Angeles Korean International Film Festival, RESFEST—as varied as a bag of concession-stand jelly beans. Bonus for celeb stalkers fans: Appearances by Jim Jarmusch, Sofia Coppola, Wes Anderson, Quentin Tarentino and Tim Burton are not out of the ordinary. The faux columns and pharaoh mural are a bit cheesy, but the projection and sound systems are state of the art. —Elisa Jacobs
