Located at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue (smack-dab in the middle of Hollywood), the multi-leveled maze of restaurants, shops, theaters and a towering hotel also houses the Kodak Theatre, home of the Oscars.

Standing like an architectural anomaly in the middle of Hollywood (the giant stone elephants rising above the courtyard are meant to be in deference to D.W. Griffith's Intolerance, which attempted to recreate the fall of ancient Babylon), this entertainment complex received many a sharp critique when it opened, but most have learned to take the outdoor mall for what it is: a temple to the chain retail gods. Virgin Megastore, Swatch, Bebe, American Eagle Outfitters, The Gap, Sephora, Nine West, Victoria's Secret and Express appeal to throngs of tourists hitting California Pizza Kitchen or Johnny Rockets after a rigorous day of photographing the stars on the sidewalk out front. But the complex isn't all standard mall fare, there's also dance club Level 3, upscale bowling alley Lucky Strike Lanes, Beard Papa's, French Crepe Company, Wolfgang Puck brasserie Vert and Neighborhoodies, where shoppers can customize t-shirts, undies, shorts and sweatshirts with a custom slogan, be it a hometown shout-out or a pickup line. Throughout the year the complex hosts a variety of events in the courtyard, ranging from free music performances to art exhibitions. During the summer months, H&H beefs up its music programming with jazz, world music and indie rock acts.
