The Hollywood Bowl's across-the-street neighbor is as small and intimate as the Bowl is large and grand.

The 1,241-seat John Anson Ford in the Hollywood Hills has all the pleasures of the Hollywood Bowl or Greek Theatre, but without the massive crowds. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean parking is any less of a hassle. Still, it's worth it; the worst seat in the house is less than 96 feet from the stage. And as with the Greek, audiences are comfortably nestled among the chaparral. During the warm weather months, the Ford stages a wide array of programs, including theater, dance, music and family events. Despite the fact the theater is considerably smaller than the Greek or the Bowl, it attracts a steady flow of high-profile performers—past acts include Wilco, Corinne Bailey Rae, Ladytron and Cat Power. The site also has an 87-seat indoor space called [INSIDE] The Ford, which stages innovative plays. Thanks to a renovation in 2000, the theater's entrance is now rather striking (visitors are greeted by well-lit fountains and greenery) and there's a less arduous uphill climb to the venue.
