The newest addition to the Center Theatre Group triumvirate (see Ahmanson Theatre and Mark Taper Forum), this theater seats a cozy 317 people.

Formerly a golden-age moviehouse, the Kirk Douglas Theatre is dedicated to nurturing the developmental processes of the Center Theatre Group. The theaters small size makes it the perfect place for CTG to focus on promoting new plays and theatrical programming for youths. KDT's inaugural season in 2004/2005 saw six world premieres including "A Perfect Wedding" by Charles L. Mee and "The Paris Letter" by Jon Robin Baitz. Its third season includes an adaptation of Jessica Hagedorns novel "Dogeaters," which examines the state of the Philippines during the times of shoe-loving First Lady Imelda Marcos. Also scheduled is "Sleeping Beauty Wakes," a collaboration between New York City pop-rock trio GrooveLily and Deaf West Theatre that reinterprets the classic fairy tale using sign language, dance and song. "A Waitress in Yellowstone" is a musical from David Mamet that explores what happens when a woman named Winnie encounters a wish-granting woodsman in Yellowstone Park. —Elisa Jacobs
