Museum of Jurassic TechnologyA bizarre collection of antiquities and ideas ![]() Interested in 17th-century theoreticians, human abnormalities or the stink ants of Cameroon? Well, who isn't?We love tall tales. And we love museums. No place in LA brings together dubious fact and unmitigated fancy as elegantly as the Museum of Jurassic Technology. (Former Getty Center director John Walsh calls it one of his favorites.) Containing factual exhibits that could theoretically be seen elsewhere, the Museum of Jurassic Technology also mixes in more whimsical and quite theoretical presentations that make the building feel like a piece of performance art in which you are the unwitting medium. Permanent exhibits include a tutorial detailing the habits of the Stink Ant of Cameroon (that would be megolaponera foetens), an investigation into the Deprong Mori of the Tripiscum Pleateau (a South American bat believed by natives to have the ability to penetrate solid objects), and the pièce de résistance, a rare "fruit stone carving" featuring a detailed Flemish landscape carved onto an unidentifiable fruit pit. (You have to see it to believe it.)![]()
