An unaccredited school where the public can get one-on-one instruction in singing and playing instruments.

Founded by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2001, the Conservatory is a non-profit organization offering instruction in singing and playing musical instruments. And since most public schools don't really offer children the opportunity to pick up the guitar or sax, this retro looking Silver Lake storefront is worth its weight in Red Hot Chili Peppers gold albums. The school offers private lessons in most instruments and voice for kids who dream of fronting the band. On weekends, the Conservatory offers group classes where students can make beautiful music (or noise) together. There's the Not More Than 20-Peace Orchestra, where Duke Ellingtons in training can get a taste of classical, pops, big band and Brazilian sounds. The Funk All-Stars Workshop lets students channel their inner James Brown with grooving jam sessions. The Youth Chorale gives pint-sized singers the chance to learn harmonization and different styles of singing. The conservatory boasts eight air-conditioned studios so students can work up a cramp- free sweat while they jam, and there's also a recital area for clinics and performances—just in case that inner performance diva needs to break free. All ages are welcome, and fees are very reasonable for one-one music lessons. Scholarships are also available for children who qualify.
