This theater may be the size of your grandmother's living room, but these comics are not grandma-appropriate unless grandma happens to be Phyllis Diller.

Started in Chicago, the sketch-comedy group The Upright Citizens Brigade was founded by Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh; other original members included "SNL" cast member Horatio Sanz and former "SNL" head writer Adam McKay. In 1996, the group made the jump to New York City, where they soon opened their own theater due to popular demand, and in 1998 launched a Comedy Central show that aired for three seasons. Finally, in July 2005, the Citizens opened in Hollywood. UCB's LA branch offers hilarious (and affordable!) all-ages shows seven nights a week, as well as improv and sketch-comedy classes. Since its opening, the stage has hosted Sarah Silverman, Jeff Garlin, Rachael Harris, Janeane Garofalo and many other famous faces. —Elisa Jacobs
